CHUNIN EXAM FIRST ROUND
Cell 7 is getting prepared for the first round of the Chunin Exam to become journeymen ninja but first things first. Rock Lee challenges Sasuke to a one on one match before the test even starts! Naruto and company are a little intimidated by the assemblage of ninja at the Exam since a lot of them are not rookies like their team. Naruto almost wets himself when he finds out the first round of the Exam is a written test. We all know and even HE knows he's not exactly the brightest lightbulb in the room. There are 10 questions with a value of 1 point each with the total points of each team being the combined score of all three members. What makes it a bit tricky is that the ninja are not told what score it takes to pass. If any team member gets caught cheating, 2 points will be deducted from each member. If you lose all 10 points you fail and will be asked to leave. Sakura has no problem with the questions since she is the smartest on her team but Naruto and Sasuke are going to have to figure out some way to get the answers from other examinees without getting nabbed.

The reader is caught just as much off-guard as Naruto's team when you find out that the first item of business for the Chunin exam is a 10 question written test. I was expecting some sort of slam bang tournament in which fighters duke it out. What Kishimoto is able to do in Volume 5 is to give a hint of each ninja's powers without giving too much away as they use their various abilities to cheat without catching the eye of any of the proctors. Well, actually, some do get caught, but nobody worthwhile. Kishimoto also introduces two important relationships. The first is that between Sakura and Yamanaka Ino, who appear to be rivals for the affections of Sasuke (even though he hasn't shown interest in either). The second is that between Naruto and Hyuga Hinata, a shy girl that Naruto thinks is a freak, but she has an unuttered crush on him. Great character designs, art, and writing.

"I'm so screwed"
Ever taken a test and tried to cheat? It is caught once and your out right? In this book, they can get caught three times and you fail your entire cell. That's right. The name of the game is cheating. Luckily, almost everyone has some ninjutsu in there arsenal. All except for Naruto.Hurry up and cheat dunce or you'll fail!Hey what's with the last question?

Exam hell
Nothing is more Japanese than the written exam. High school students usually don't get graded on daily work, but instead can study all year for a single test that is close to 100% of their grade. If you fail it, then try again next year.

In "Naruto 5," all the genin (jr. ninja) who hope to advance to chunin (journeyman) must sit a written exam. The catch is, each team passes or fails as a team, using their combined score. If Naruto fails, then Sakura and Sasuke go down too. Naruto's only hope is to cheat, but anyone getting caught cheating is immediately failed, along with his team. A great story, showing Naruto's unique psychological strengths in a tense situation.

Of course, Viz does a great job with this book as with all the Naruto series. My only complaint is that the entire series is in black and white, and the colored parts of the series are also rendered in black and white. I wish they would get as close as possible to the Japanese original, including the colored sections.

The Background Of Naruto Shippuden Explained

Author: Gabriel Adams
On February 15, 2007, Naruto Shippuden began airing on TV Tokyo in Japan. It was like a breath of fresh air, considering that the fans had to suffer through all too many filler Naruto episodes for the better part of the previous year. The Naruto fans had to put up with non-canon episodes where Naruto performs rasengans and kage-bunshins faster than he can say dattebayo.

It was all rather depressing - that filler episodes would blotch up the great story that Kishimoto-sensei wrote. Some fans gave up the moment the fillers started, some gave up halfway, and some remarkably stuck to the anime until the very end, all of them fervently praying for the end of those hellish fillers. Well, there answer came in the form of Naruto Shippuden.

Naruto Shippuden

In the manga, Shippuden is simply known as Part 2. Shippuden, means "Whirlwind Chronicles", obviously an allusion to Naruto's power to manipulate wind (e.g. Rasengan). It happens after some sort of time-skip, it takes place two and half years after Sasuke's defection from Konoha.

Now, if you try to recall, Orochimaru would have done his body-transfer jutsu on Sasuke two years ago had he not been unlucky and had to perform an emergency body transfer on someone else. His acquisition of the sharingan eye would have to wait for three years. After the time-skip, the body transfer is no longer 3 years away, but a scant 6 months. And of course, this means that Sasuke has to be rescued and quick, because if not, he'd be taken by Orochimaru and Naruto would lose his friend.

Shippuden starts with a sneak preview of a scene that has yet to be shown in the naruto episodes thus far. It is the fateful team 7 reunion where Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke meet up, not as friends but as enemies. But before more of the plot is revealed, the scene cuts and changes to the actual start of Shippuden - Naruto's return to Konoha.

Actual Start of Part II

Naruto returns to Konoha after two and a half years of training with Jiraiya. He meets up with Sakura, who has also trained with a legendary Sannin, Tsunade, for the past two and a half years. She has grown a lot from that girl who was always left behind to a ninja who has inherited the inhuman strength and the medical prowess of her mentor. If you've noticed, all the members of team 7 have trained with a legendary sannin, including Sasuke, who has succumbed to evil by joining Orochimaru.

After meeting up with Sakura, they are summoned to the Hokage tower where Tsunade, the Hokage, reunites them with Kakashi. They are grouped together to form a team, but they are no longer called Team 7 but Team Kakashi. The first episode is a nostalgic remake of the Bell Test, only this time, Sasuke's not there and Naruto and Sakura actually win by threatening to spoil the ending of Icha-icha paradise for Kakashi.

Afterwards, the series starts getting serious, as Gaara, the new Kazekage, gets kidnapped by a member of the Akatsuki. The story starts from there and, after a series of events, progresses finally to Team Kakashi's Sasuke retrieval mission.

The first part of Naruto was great and it was surely a tough act to follow. But fortunately, Naruto Shippuden can cope. The anime series is still as interesting as ever, if not even more, what with the deepening of the plot.

Kakashis' hand goes right through hakus' heart and out the other side then zabuza prepares to slice through both kakashi and the dead haku but kakashi moves him and haku out of the way , and then he runs up to zabuza and stabs him in both of his arms. Then gato shows up and plans to kill them and naruto get's mad and tells him how much haku loved him. zabuza gets sad that hakus dead and asked to use narutos kunai knife and holds it between his teeth, and runs through all the soilders and kills them and gets stabbed in his back about twenty times literally with swords in his back( amazing he could even move) and he runs up to gato and slices off his head then he dies next to haku. the rest is about the chunin exams' beging up to when lee asks sasuke to fight him. Bishojo Games Varieties and Types

Author: Tima.ashar

Bishojo games always involve anime girls, not the pictures of real-life girls. There are several reasons for this: first, anime girls were better and suited to computer screens in the early days when colors were limited. Second, anime allows hardcore bishojo game studios to circumvent Japanese child pornography laws, which ban only pictures of real-life minors, not simulations (the same as in US laws).

Bokukko (boku-girl) - A tomboyish, energetic girl who calls herself by the pronoun boku, (normally used by a young preteen male).
Ha-kagi (leaf-key) - A short term referring to two famous bishojo game studios with many fans hold up above all others, Key and Leaf. • Loli (short for "Lolita") - Usually a reference to any character that looks to be under 13. They are the most common characters who call the male lead of a Bishojo Game 'Oniichan'. See lolicon.

Meganekko (glasses-girl) - A girl who wears large glasses all the time and is usually shy and bookish. She can be beautiful to start with, but often she will seem plain at first and turn out to be a stunning beauty once her glasses are removed.

Meido (maid) - A girl maid who dresses in Gothic Lolita style.

Moe - A term used to describe a genre of works featuring a "ideally" cute girl, or the cuteness itself.

Oniichan (big brother) - A term of address often used by female characters towards the male. Many games involve little sisters, often friends who became step - sisters after their parents' marriage, so the literal meaning of "big brother" applies.

Naki game (crying game) - A game with a tragic story which moves some players to tears. These usually contain few if any pornographic scenes, as these would be likely to interfere with the sad atmosphere. Kanon and Air are often described as naki games.

Ugu - The famously cute catchphrase of the popular character Tsukimiya Ayu from Kanon, a nonsense sound she uses constantly with a meaning somewhat resembling "hmmm" or "argh".

Utsu game (depressing game) - A game where girls die or worse not because of something the player, but as a part of an unchangeable story line. Also used to describe games with a jarring or anticlimactic ending.

Yaoi - A term used to describe works with an implied or explicit homosexual relationship between males. Female homosexuality in hentai, manga, and dojinshi is referred to as Yuri.

Yari game (doing-it game) - An H game where the only reason to play the game is to collect all sexually explicit pictures, because the story is sloppy and unimaginative. Some designers intentionally make yaoi games by storing all relevant pictures in a folder that can be reviewed after the game is cleared.

Does Naruto Die In The Shippuden Movie?

Author: Gabriel Adams
Last 2007, the makers of the anime, Naruto, released a set of trailers concerning the First Naruto Shippuden Movie which is also the fourth in the series of Naruto movies. The trailers and the advertisements were all fraught with hints - some subtle, some blatant - about Naruto's apparent "death". The trailers were all dramatic - even heart-wrenching. The trailers first show Naruto fighting against some enemies, and then he dies with his headband torn and his body battered, and then, the Konoha ninja are shown to be gathered around a grave with the torn headband hanging on the side.

That trailer shocked Naruto fans all over the world. It created an uproar. Overnight, the internet was flooded with questions about the new movie. So many fans were asking whether or not Naruto does die.

That trailer was something of a phenomenon. You really had to see it to believe it. Because, really, can you honestly, after watching the whole anime, believe that Naruto would die - in a movie, no less? Of course not! The idea was just plain laughable. You just don't kill off the greatest and most loveable protagonist since Son Goku... It's almost immoral to do so!

But then there it was - the trailer - irrevocable proof from the makers of the anime themselves - that Naruto, Konoha's Hokage-to-be, was going to die. It was clear as day and written in blaring letters that "Naruto Dies!". It was unbelievable but it was official - Naruto. In the fourth movie, would die!

Or so we thought...

How could the Anime Naruto episodes end when the manga itself doesn't even seem to be nearing the end? How could the anime end with so many unresolved issues? How could the story go on without its main character dead?

The answer: It can't.

The 'Naruto Dies' thing was just an advertising trick to rope people into the cinemas. The death scene, including the funeral scene, was just a vision of a miko named Shion. She predicts Naruto's death through a dream, and since all her previous predictions were correct, then it follows that this one would also be true - unless Naruto gives up on his job to protect her and leaves for a safe place, of course. But then again, this is Naruto we're talking about, and he doesn't give up, "Believe it!". So, he challenges fate and stays to protect Shion despite the deep sense of foreboding. And, surprise surprise, he wins against fate and survives, killing off the evil villain with another rendition of the rasengan along the way. You could smell the plot's ending a mile away - or in this case, while the opening credits were rolling and those death scenes we've seen on the trailers were all laid out before we could even reach the second half of the movie.

This movie, with the interesting but misleading trailer, follows the pattern of the previous movies - a scarcity of originality and a surplus of fight scenes. It has the quintessential 'character-to-be-protected' with the sad past, the parallelism to Naruto's own life, the obligatory jokes and insults, and the super-evil villain who has a grudge against the world. The DVD comes out in April of 2008, and the subs should follow 2 weeks or so after the release of the DVD. It's not the best movie in the world, but it's still Naruto in his new Shippuden look series and Naruto is always entertaining no matter what he does. The fight scenes should be worth a look as the animators does seem to spent quite a bit of time detailing them, anyway.

Unlimited download access to free Anime movies! Isn’t that an offer you would die to grab? And it is not only movies that you can download but also videos, TV series, music, songs, themes and wallpapers. Think about the amount of money you could save without ever having to rent or buy and CD or DVD again.

You might know of hundreds of websites which provide you this kind of service. Most of them usually charge you around $30 - $40 every month to mainly support their huge servers. And for this monthly fee you can download unlimited files be it movies, videos, music or anything for that matter and all this at high download speeds.

I found something and you would love this if you are an Anime fan. There is just no limit to how much you can download from this particular site. I am an ardent Anime and Manga lover, just like most of you and I have tried many site which offer Anime downloads and the fees each of them charged was atrocious and they did not even have a fairly good collection in their library.

The discovery of this particular website has simply got me hooked to it. It is impossible to think about life without it for me today. You could say it is heaven on the internet for Anime lovers. Download Anime Videos of your Choice

Author: Davion W
Whether you are a die-hard fan of anime videos or a beginner in this genre, chances are you are looking for ways to download anime videos online with the best quality and lowest cost possible. The good news is Japanese cartoons of all sorts are easily available at numerous websites today. However, before you jump at the first opportunity, assess your choices carefully.

There is quite a huge fan base on the Internet, which clearly shows that the distinctive cartoon style originated in Japan has spread all over the world and won the hearts of audiences across different cultures and languages. Thanks to some enthusiastic anime lovers, there are websites where you can download anime videos absolutely free of cost.

The perspective does look nice at the first sight; however, it may be potentially risky for both your computer and you, personally. Usually, what you get at these sites are pirated copies of original videos in Japanese, translated into English by a couple of enthusiasts. Clearly, you can’t expect much from an unlicensed copy – annoying downloading process, poor quality of picture and sound, frequent interruptions in the flow are some of the common problems.

What is worse, you never know what you are getting with each downloaded file. What if it is virus infected? And what about loads of nasty malware polluting your computer’s system? Do you want your PC to be hacked or your ID stolen? Definitely, not. And your innocent wish to download anime videos comes to nowhere close to copyright infringement and ending up abused and scammed.

Isn’t it worth paying a few bucks if in return you get a professionally looking website with all the latest and classic anime series, no frustrating pop-ups, digital quality, and full assistance at each and every step? As a fan, you deserve the best viewing experience, and spending an affordable amount on what you like most is only natural. After all, at a price of a few episodes on DVD, you can get instant unlimited access to an impressive database of old and new anime videos – clearly, the latter makes a fantastic deal.

On all large and popular websites you can download anime videos of wide choice – the most popular series as well as less known ones. You can also choose cartoons according to the audience they are targeted at – young kids and teenagers, boys, girls, young adults, and so on.

Most of the sites also have the popular Manga series based on the popular Japanese comics. Download anime videos wisely, and don’t let anything spoil your viewing experience!

Not All of the Anime Style Animations are in Fact Animes

Author: Muna wa Wanjiru
The world of entertainment is vast and varied. In this world you will find many different styles ranging from live action entertainment to that of animated figures. These animated figures can be divided into two segments. The traditional cartoon hand drawn figures or that of the computer generated figures. While you will find many types of animation which uses both of these styles of creation the different animes are ones which are rapidly capturing the imagination of many people.

When you hear people referring to animes in general they are speaking about the popular animation programs which seem to have some Japanese element to them. The reason for this Japanese influence is because many of these animated shows have a Japanese background to them.

This may not be apparent when you see the body shape and style of the characters that are portrayed in animes. If you look carefully there are times when the culture and Japanese way of living are clearly shown. A few examples of this would be the popular Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z anime series.

In these while the characters appear to be from other countries or even worlds the living style of Japan. Other than seeing animes which are influenced by Japanese culture there are others that we may be familiar with. These styles will include Mickey Mouse, Betty Boop and even Bambi. While these three cartoons are not considered as being part of the anime genre, you can see some resemblances.

There is one item that you need to understand when you are talking about anime. This is the simple fact that not all of the anime style animations are in fact animes. These anime replicas have caught onto the popularity which can be seen with different anime programs.

The sources for these animes can be found in manga stories and also from light novels. Stories and events from other cultures will also influence the storyline of animes. To make people more aware of these fascinating animated stories you can find many of the popular animes in DVD formats, video games, video player formats – VHS – and you can even find some of these animes available as video games.

With such a wide range of products to promote the pure enjoyment that you can get from animes you will understand why there are so many different shows which promote this type of animation. The best thing that you can say about animes is that this style of drawing is that you gain a new appreciation for the world of animation.

Free Games - Dragon Ball Style

    Author: IC
A quick search in Google shows that there are several gaming sites which target the word "free" when in fact they are paid services, not only do they advertise to the wrong market they make things difficult for the surfer who has a few minutes to spare and wants to have some fun during his/her leisure time.

Today's gaming world has evolved from the stand alone console mentality into the vast world of the net, gaming applications which were popular back in the late 90's and first few years of this decade have now become available to the world without a subscription or any kind of fee. This is surely a gamer's heaven. Popular free games such as Pokemon, Super Mario, Donkey Kong, have all invaded the net with their action/strategy scheme but a game which became an all time classic due to the animation it is based on is Dragon Ball.

Dragon ball is an successful animation which was launched in 1986 in Japan, it was based on the manga adaptation by Akira Toriyama who developed this action packed story into hundreds of half hour episodes. The main characters of the original series are Goku, Bulma, Roshi, Kuirin, Piccolo, etc. The story revolves around the fact that Goku is a powerful fighter who encounters many skilled opponents in ninja tournaments which turn out to be quite spectacular by the display of powers.

On later episodes, Goku meets his rival and future friend Vegeta who just like himself is one of the few surviving Saiyans who survived the destruction of their home planet by fleeing from it to distant planets. The battles are fierce and Goku fights to protect earth becoming stronger each time. His special abilities are: super strength, super speed, teleportation, energy blast (kamehameha), super Saiyan (2,3,4)

Because of its popularity many Dragon ball games were made available to online communities where Goku has once again to take on Vegeta, Freezer and the many foes he fought in the anime series. The popularity of this game grew as several versions were released to cover the characters introduced in later seasons such as Dragon ball Z and GT.

The online version called Power Levels is just one of many which shows Goku in super Saiyan mode fighting against a strong Vegeta another free online version of the game is called "dimension" where you have more flexibility to choose the fighters, in this version you can fight as Piccolo, Gohan or Goku and your opponents can be Cell, Vegeta or Freezer. Whoever you decide to battle remember that free game versions of this great saga are waiting for you all over the web.

    Naruto Animation: An Unbiased Review

    Author: Gabriel Adams
The anime, Naruto, is based on Masashi Kishimoto's manga of the same title. The anime is produced by Studio Pierrot and aniplex and is aired in Japan's terrestrial TV Tokyo Network and several other networks worldwide. Naruto's animation is fluid and each Naruto episode is filled with gripping fight scenes and beautifully portrayed characters. It currently has over 200 episodes and still counting.

    Storyline

The story is about a young boy name Uzumaki Naruto. Naruto, blond-haired and blue-eyed, is a spirited, hyperactive, and overly loud ninja. He is first introduced as a troublemaker, playing various pranks and being at the bottom of his class in the ninja academy. But Naruto is not your average neighborhood brat - far from it. Naruto, despite his obvious lack in the skills, manners, and intelligence department, has lots of self-confidence and even more determination. He, though loud and uncouth, has a golden heart and a power to inspire others. He aspires to be the Hokage - the leaf village's top ninja. He is revealed to be an orphan and to have a demon beast, the nine-tailed fox, sealed inside him, causing the villagers to shun him and even hate him. All he wants is the people's acceptance - which he gradually gains as the story progresses.

    Other Important Characters

The story starts when Naruto is placed on a genin team composed of a girl named Haruno Sakura and a boy named Uchiha Sasuke. Sakura, a pink-haired girl who cares more for her looks rather than being a ninja but has great intelligence, is Naruto's love interest. However, she resists all his advances, even to the point of beating him up. Incidentally, Sakura is in love with Sasuke, Naruto's 'rival', along with several other girls, all of whom are blatantly ignored and scoffed at by the said boy. Uchiha Sasuke seems to be everything Naruto is not, perfect looks, prodigious intelligence and skills, a cold and aloof personality, and the respect and love of several people. The boy does not seem to care though, and treats everyone condescendingly, especially Naruto. They are placed under the wing of Hatake Kakashi, a very mysterious figure who has a habit of reading a lewd book. Together, they go on several missions, eventually building a strong, albeit hesitant and grudging, friendship wherein they would do anything for each other. As the series progresses, various elements are thrown into the mix, a witty blend of comedy, action, and a little bit of romance. The plot deepens, leading to the revelation of Sasuke's bitter past and his eventual descent into darkness and Naruto and Sakura's desperation to save him from his demons, all the while battling enemy ninja with their own evil agendas.

This anime is popular for a reason. It will have you falling in love with the plot and the characters, laughing with them in the happy moments, and even crying with them in the sad ones. This anime is definitely worth watching. Even if you are not yet an anime fan, you will enjoy it.

Catch My Drift? the Japanese Street Craze of Drifting

    Author: Paul McIndoe
A group of young Japanese cheer "Sugoi Yo" (yo, that's cool!) as the Nissan 350Z slides round the corner at a 45 degree slant, deep in the industrial sector of Yokohama - Japan's third largest city. As the smoke from the burning tyres clears, the spider web of black marks on the grey concrete surface become visible, proof of the popularity of this circuit. Welcome to the world of the drifters; a subculture of Japanese who meet to test their driving skills, show off their souped up hot rods and burn a lot of rubber.

The word 'Drifting' describes a cornering technique where the front wheels of the car point in the opposite direction to the turn, resulting in the car sliding round the corner almost at right angles to the turn - effectively a controlled skid. The practice has long been used in various forms of motor spot racing, such as rallying and early Grand Prix, but it was a young Japanese boy racer, Keiichi Tsuchiya who is credited with popularising drifting. Tsuchiya later went on to win several major motor sport titles and become a drifting legend despite having his race license suspended during his early career, due to his continuing participation in street racing.

Tsuchiya has now retired from both professional and street racing, but is revered internationally for his drifting skills, and his contribution to drifting was recently honoured by his cameo performance in the street racing movie "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift".

Today, drifting is still very popular with the Japanese and the DI Grand Prix is a major fixture in the motor sport calendar, but it is the culture of street drifting that has captured the imagination of many car fans across the world, and has for a large part been popularised through drifting videos that have been posted on the internet by drivers and their fans.

The flamboyant, crowd pleasing and rebellious nature of street Drifting has spawned several Japanese manga (comic books) that are based on the practice. Keiichi Tsuchiya is an editorial supervisor of the title "Initial D" which focuses on the world of drifting and Touge (pronounced Toe-gay). Touge literally means "pass" and has come to describe a form of racing in Japan, where drivers use narrow, winding mountain roads to test their driving skills against each other.

Street drifting has since spread around the world, and is popular in the USA, UK, Europe and the drifting craze has even reached the Middle East.

Mastering Japanese Kanji - 7 Guerilla Tactics

    Author: Jed Jones
The adoption in around the 6th century CE of kanji by the Japanese from Chinese emissaries was a blessing for the Japanese language since it was the first time the language appeared in written form. At the same time, the act was destined to seem like a curse for the thousands of non-native Japanese speakers who have tried their hand at learning kanji. Simply put: mastering kanji is hard!

To the brain of the typical Westerner who has been raised on an alphabet-based Indo-European language like English, Spanish, or German, the prospect of learning and mastering kanji presents a special challenge. Each kanji is a pictograph, ideograph or phono-semiotic (ouch!) character and can consist of up to twenty individual strokes which need to be drawn in a particular order. Most kanji have three or more possible pronunciations and must be used in combination with one or more other kanji just to form a single word.

So, where does one start on the road toward mastery? Rather than repeat for you the conventional wisdom about mastering kanji, I will share with you seven tactics I learned as a veteran kanji studier.

In my case, I needed all the help I could get: after four years of university study of Japanese, I was still a kanji novice. The secrets I share with you here are the hard-won knowledge that helped me to pass Level 1 (most difficult) of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) after just 15 months of self-study while working a full time job. And, the beauty of it is: you can use them right where you are RIGHT NOW to master kanji.

Tactic #1: Ignore the conventional study order:

Sure, start with the first 100 to 200 of the 1945 jouyou (common use) kanji until you get your feet wet. But then, dive right into the hard ones whenever you come across them, no matter how unfamiliar. This may seem like a harder road to tread initially, but the time you save in not having to distinguish between the kanji on your study list and those you are saving for later means more time and energy you can devote to studying.

    Tactic #2: Parts is parts:

Learn first the meaning of 20 or 30 of the most commonly-occurring of the 214 radicals (i.e., basic building blocks of kanji) found on the front, inside cover of any kanji dictionary to become familiar with the majority of the kanji you encounter. Once you do, you will reap the rewards as you start to see each new kanji as a puzzle to be deciphered. You will recognize the individual components of the new kanji right away. This process is called "chunking" and goes like this: learning three, five-stroke components of a kanji is much easier than trying to remember fifteen individual strokes. Know the parts and the rest will be just a matter of putting the pieces together.

Tactic #3: Jump right into the hard stuff:

This refers specifically to the study of the written word rather than individual kanji. Even if you are a beginner, go ahead and read a bit of advanced text every day (newspapers, books, etc. ). This method is great for becoming familiar with the most common kanji combinations as they occur in their natural environments. By doing this, each seemingly foreign configuration of strokes will quickly become second-nature to you.

    Tactic #4: Read aloud:

There are three major aspects to mastering a kanji: recognizing its structure/shape, knowing what it means, and being able to pronounce it correctly. A hugely efficient way of studying is to read aloud whenever possible. Reading kanji aloud is a great way to kill three birds (learning structure/shape, meaning, and sound) with one, big, noisy stone.

Tactic #5: Take your time in choosing your favorite learning materials:

One or more of any number of characteristics of a given kanji dictionary or study guide (e.g., font type/size, look-and-feel of the binding, cover design, paper quality: even the author photo or the smell of the ink) can affect whether you want to read more or just put it down and watch the Discovery Channel instead. Pay attention to your first impressions: if a book was recommended by a friend as "the best ever" but you just do not seem to click with it, boldly cast it aside and move on. You will be rewarded by much better retention if you study using the materials with which you feel most comfortable.

Tactic #6: Utilize multiple sources of the written word:

Science tells us that our brains are "plastic" in that the connections between our brain cells actually become stronger and more plentiful when we are exposed to new stimuli. Thus, be sure to expose yourself to the countless ways that kanji are represented in written form: books, newspapers, magazines, manga, street signs, legal texts, your sewage bill (if you live in Japan), cereal boxes - you name it! You will be rewarded with a quick advance in the rate of your kanji retention.

Tactic #7: Avoid getting hung up on the stubborn ones:

Set aside as special cases those kanji that you just cannot seem to make stick in your mind rather than keeping them as a part of your regular study routine. Doing so yields two powerful benefits. First, you can start feeling good again about the kanji you are learning just fine (thank you very much) and thereby maintain a steady pace as you review them in groups. Second, by singling out the troublemakers you make a special point to study them on their own terms and for what they are, thereby actually increasing your speed of mastery.

So, buck convention and get on the road to becoming a kanji master!

    Hooking Reluctant Readers

    Author: Bruce Hale
A while back, I was shopping in the book section of Costco, a tempting place for a book-lover. While browsing the latest thrillers, I overheard this exchange between a middle-school girl and her mother.

Girl: "But why can't I read The Da Vinci Code?"

Mom: "It's a grown-up book, honey. Here, take this one."

Girl: "The Hobbit? I don't want to read that; it's a little kid's book."

Mom: "We want you to read The Hobbit."

At that point, I felt like stepping in and saying, "Excuse me, ma'am, I'm an author. Step away from The Hobbit. Let the girl read what she likes."

The truth is, it's hard enough to get some kids to put their nose in a book. No need to complicate matters by trying to make them read something they don't like.

Educators, parents and authors all want to keep reluctant readers reading. But those readers can be finickier than a roomful of felines at a cat food taste test. Maybe they know what they like; maybe they only know what they don't like.

I believe that all it takes to create a reader is the right book. Finding that tale is the trick.

So how do you pick books that will hook reluctant readers? Each child is different, with very particular tastes. Nevertheless, here are some key elements that engage child readers, along with some suggested titles:

    HUMOR
Whether you hate or love Captain Underpants, you can't deny that his humor captures readers - especially boys. Kids love to laugh, and if you can put funny books in their hands, they'll keep gobbling them up.

    Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey
Time Warp Trio by Jon Scieszka
Bunnicula: A Rabbit Tale of Mystery by Deborah and James Howe
The Chet Gecko Mysteries by Bruce Hale
Mr. Chickee’s Funny Money by Christopher Paul Curtis

    SYMPATHETIC CHARACTERS
Whatever genre the story falls into, it must have a main character that the reader claims as a friend. And just as important, the tale must be told in concise, vigorous writing. Reluctant readers don’t have the patience to slog through lengthy or convoluted prose.

    Amber Brown by Paula Danziger
Millicent Min, Girl Genius by Lisa Yee
The Hank Zipzer series by Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver
    Superfudge by Judy Blume

    FANTASY
Kids love books that take a compelling “what if” (what if a treehouse was a time machine? what if a boy went to wizard school?) and spin out a story. Alternate worlds, magical happenings, extraterrestrials — all of these can capture the unmotivated reader’s imagination.

Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne
    Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
The Bartimeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud
My Teacher Is an Alien by Bruce Coville
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

    ACTION
With so much competition from movies, TV and videogames, books must move if they want to entice. Slow-paced stories are fine for more experienced readers, but reluctant readers need books that hit the ground running.

    Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz
    Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
The Redwall books by Brian Jacques
    Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
    Hatchet by Gary Paulsen

THE PROMISE THAT SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN
This is why we all read, to see what happens next in the story. A book that builds suspense early on and maintains it will keep kids reading.

    Animorphs by K.A. Applegate
    Holes by Louis Sachar
Matt Christopher Sports Series by Matt Christopher
    Goosebumps by R.L. Stine

    SERIES
Series are training-wheel books. They provide familiar characters in a familiar world that’s easier to lose yourself in with each new title. Series books build literacy skills and create new readers.

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
    Judy Moody by Megan McDonald
Percy Jackson & The Olympians by Rick Riordan
The Magic Schoolbus series by Joanna Cole

    STRONG VISUALS
Graphic novels, manga, and comic books, with their strong visual content, will hook plenty of reluctant readers — especially boys. These books can serve as a stepping-stone to longer fiction.

    Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai
    Bone by Jeff Smith
Groo the Wanderer by Sergio Aragones
Babymouse by Jennifer and Matthew Holm

    SEEING THEMSELVES
Some reluctant readers don’t want fantasy; they want the real world. If we take the time to give them books with multicultural characters they can identify with, those readers will respond.

Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
Bucking the Sarge by Christopher Paul Curtis
Who Am I Without Him? Sharon Flake (YA)

Some say that it’s not good to give kids certain kinds of books, that it’s not wise to let them read comic books or escapist literature. Personally, I’m happy if kids read almost anything — magazines, video game instructions, cereal boxes, or the writing on the wall — as long as they’re reading.

First we have to show them that reading can be fun. Only after that goal is accomplished can we offer them more challenging books that will open up their minds.

If we want to have a literate nation in the future, reaching reluctant readers now is our first task. (After that, we can focus on playing “book police” at Costco. Just kidding.)

Buying a Property in Spain - Making the First Move Toward a Place in the Sun

    Author: Andrew Regan
Over the past 20 years, thousands of UK residents have acquired a property in Spain, and a consistent and substantial growth in UK property prices has provided the opportunity for many people to achieve their dream of owning a second property. Reasons for considering a purchase of property in Spain can vary greatly. Some people might look for a holiday home for the family or perhaps a retirement home; others might look to make an investment on a property, perhaps to take advantage of market growth.

Many of the long-standing resort areas of Spain have seen a downturn in development of property construction, which is partly due to the availability of new areas of the country. While Costa Blanca remains popular with property buyers, lesser-known parts of the country, such as Costa Calida are now becoming more established.

Potential property buyers will undoubtedly have different needs in terms of location and property type, and these needs will be dependent on the purchasers’ motive for securing a home in Spain. For example, a speculator might seek to buy into the early stage of a new property development, whilst a holiday-home buyer might look for a property close to the beach. For many potential buyers, another consideration might be the proximity of the property development to an airport. This is an important factor in allowing quick and easy access to their property; Costa Calida and Costa Blanca are well served in this regard, with year round flights from many UK and Ireland airports.

Consideration of road travel times is less important than in the UK, with the achievement of a significant road improvement programme; and with less cars per kilometre on Spanish roads, journeys are relatively straightforward. Furthermore, most property developments are situated only a short drive away from towns and cities and can cater for all modern life requirements, while numerous traditional Spanish villages provide a glimpse of life as it once was.

For golfers, the Murcia region of Spain is famous for its many golf courses. In fact, the region is home to La Manga Golf Club - the scene of many international tournaments – and one of the most prestigious golf clubs in the country. For an investor, golf courses are a major draw and properties situated on or near golf developments greatly enhance the possibility of frequent lets of accommodation to leisure golfers.

Before buying a property in Spain, it is important to conduct some detailed research. Although much of this research can be done at home through magazines, the internet or attending an exhibition, take some time to research the desired location along with what’s on offer, thus ensuring the perfect investment for you. It is also helpful to consult a knowledgeable and reliable Spanish property agent who can advise on choosing the right area, provide a list of suitable properties and can also provide information on schools, leisure facilities, local culture and communities to match your needs. Furthermore, property agents can also advise on the best way to finance the purchase of property in Spain, so you can set yourself a budget for your purchase.

Buying a property in Spain isn’t as daunting as it might appear. With careful planning and research, you’ll have a much better idea of the desired location for your property - making that move to a place in the sun a lot easier.

Costa Blanca is One of the Healthiest Areas of the World in Which to Live

    Author: Michael Saville
The World Health Organisation has confirmed what many people had believed for years, namely that the Costa Blanca is one of the healthiest areas of the world in which to live. This isn't surprising to those people who know the region. The Costa Blanca has an excellent year-round climate. The humidity is relatively low, and therefore ideal for sufferers of arthritis and other climatically influenced health problems.

The Costa Blanca area of Spain is one of the wealthiest in the country. Tourism earns considerable returns for the locals and property prices reflect the number of British and other northern Europeans who buy a second home in this tempting area, in particular around Torrevieja. The weather has a lot to do with this. The sun is said to shine 320 days a year. The area is famous for its beaches and golf courses (the Villamartin golf course hosted the 1994 Mediterranean Open) but the region has much more to offer.

The landscape of the Northern Costa Blanca, contrasts significantly with the tourist areas to the South of Alicante, with high peaks and breathtaking mountain views. The deep valley's lined with almond trees, rich soil, green vegetation, orange and lemon groves, olive trees and vineyards. The Jalon valley is a truly beautiful sight particularly in January and February when the almond blossom is in bloom. There are few places in the world where the northern part of a small coastline contrasts more with the south.

Water sports of every kind can be found in most resorts in the Costa Blanca. There are modern Marina's making it a perfect base for yachtsmen and it's only fifty miles or so due East to the magical cruising area of the Balearic Islands.

Of course for some people the Costa Blanca beaches are big attractions, the majority of which are kept wonderfully clean. For example, the Torrevieja area has seven European Union blue flag beaches. These vary from the very active beaches with a full range of water sports, activities & services to secluded rocky and sandy coves. All of the major beaches have first aid posts and most have refreshment areas. Worth a visit are the beaches at Guardamar, Playa la Zenia, Playa Flamenca and Cobo Roig.

For other people the attraction is the beautiful golf courses such as Villamartin, manicured to perfection and situated amongst orange groves and palm trees. The new La Finca course is within a 10 minute drive of Villamartin. There are also another nine courses within 30 minutes including, La Manga, Mosa Trajectum, Alicante, Alenda, Haciena De Alamo, La Marquesa, El Plantio, Bonalba, & Altorreal.

Torrevieja, situated next to the sea in the south of the Costa Blanca region is surrounded by two beautiful and large natural saltwater lagoons which form the well-known "Salterns of Torrevieja" considered the biggest in Europe and second in the world. Torrevieja is famous in Spain for it's many festivals - the biggest festival being the Habaneras festival in August. For forty years, every August, Torrevieja has held its traditional Competition of Habaneras and Polyphony, which now has an international character, since it is one of the greatest cultural celebrations in Europe. Voices from all over the world come together in Torrevieja, and the Habanera sings its way out of the competition precincts, and becomes the folklore of the locals. For a whole week, Torrevieja sways to the rhythm of the Habanera, with its tropical flavour from Cuba. The competition awakes the interest of thousands of people throughout Spain, who experience it each year in Torrevieja. The festival attracts a live and television audience of hundreds of thousands of people.

More Britons than ever are looking to move abroad and Spain is one of the most popular destinations, according to a recent survey undertaken by the Leeds Building Society. Over half of people taking part in the survey said that they had considered emigrating and thirteen per cent said they were looking to make the move in the near future. Many people have chosen to move to the Costa Blanca area of Spain.

"Even Children's Comic Book Makers Do It..."

    Author: Kim Klaver
    Well, in Japan, anyway.

Comic book makers for schoolgirls and boys in Japan offer different fare to boys and girls…so that BOTH groups buy those comics like crazy, not just the traditional boy market.

In their June "Japanese Schoolgirl Watch," Wired magazine notes, "Anyone who thinks schoolgirls and boys enjoy the same fantasies needs to bone up on shojo manga." The Japanese comics for gals are the antitheses of typical boy titles, they write.

"In the series for guys, Dragon Ball Z, for example, robots are death machines and sound effects of pitched battles (bwa-whoom!) are common. In the series for girls, like Absolute Boyfriend, bots (=robots) are cute guys…stories get interspersed with shopping tips on clothes and cosmetics…"

Note that even the titles fit the gender preferences – so that each group will buy them. Dragon Ball Z, vs Boyfriend. Dragons versus friends. Pitched battles versus caring for the bots (guys) and the giving of tips to look better. And they sell so many comics to both groups that they're translated into English now.

The different marketing approach designed for schoolgirls versus the boys was the focus of the piece in Wired.

Don't such preferences grow stronger inside most children as they become adults?

The recruiting and sales training practices of nearly every company I know focuses on the male style and idolizes the accomplishments that only full time men or women can attain (read: big money). Rather than developing approaches to fit women, who are 80% of our sales force and customer base, and most of whom are 5-10 hours per week, I guess they figure the male way is enough.

How we doing so far? Well, does the 95% drop out rate tell us anything? Remember that 80% of the people IN the business are women, so we know who's dropping out, yes?

Madison Avenue is trying to catch up, too. Women, 51% of the US population today, are suddenly the majority. There are BOOKS about marketing to this new majority "Marketing to Women".

Shall we catch up, too, for the benefit of the 10.4 million women trying to create something of their own in network marketing?

    The Hd Media Future

    Author: Jay Jeetley

    The HD Media future

Everyone knows that media format wars have historical significance in the world of technology. Remember the most notorious battle between the Beta max and the VHS? The winner of such battles will make millions even billions. Later we had the upgrade of tape to CD, a revolution in music. In 1980 the Philips/Sony compact disc standard was finalized and nobody has looked back for the last 26 years (until mp3's came along).

Well as ever there is a new media battle but who will win again is yet unknown. This modern forest of technological mass has produced a new insurgency: THE HIGH DEFINITION WAR. Blu-ray vs HD-DVD are two competing formats which are eventually going to replace DVD's. As you look around at your local electric retailers you can see changes happening in the broadcast world, not only are we changing from our conventional CRT screens to Flat screen but also to HD ready TV. The impact this has on our lives is not as large as black and white to colour, but nevertheless a change that will definitely be a benchmark for future media.

    Why New formats?

The reason we have introduced these new formats is that your traditional DVD can hold a maximum of 9.4 GB (Dual Layer) of information. This is not enough for HD broadcast as the information required is higher, being a resolution of 1920x1080. Blu-ray discs can hold 50 GB (Dual Layer) and HD-DVD 30 GB (Dual Layer).

These new discs cannot be played on normal DVD players but on new HD media players of which examples are Samsung BDP 1000 (Blu-Ray), Sony Playstation 3 (Blu-Ray), Toshiba HDXA1 (HD-DVD). This means spending more money for better resolution.

    Price

This is always important especially when new models of media come out; at first it is always expensive as supply out strips demand. The players are expensive, the cheapest being the Playstation 3 supposedly retailing at £549. Blu-Ray media also being expensive; similar to DVD's when they first came out (taking inflation into consideration), blank media costing from £11.99 to £24.99.

To play a Blu-ray Disc on a PC has brought about a price concern. The fact that you have to purchase a HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) Graphic card, along with a HD monitor, not to mention a Blu-ray Drive and media, controversially may bring about decrease in sales. This is presently being contested with new Laptops and PCs that are Blu-ray compatible, look at the New Vaio VGN-AR21S.

The HD players need to be up to scratch on price. The Toshiba HD-DVD player retailing at almost half the price of the Blu-ray Samsung player creates even more competition between the two media. This could encourage sales of HD-DVD over Blu-ray, even though it's rumoured that Toshiba will be making a loss initially.

Prices of movies doesn't seem to be as high as anticipated; a Blu-ray movie 'House of flying daggers' from amazon.com will set you back $19.95 (£10.68). This may encourage sales. Movies in HD-DVD identical in price, yet Blu-ray is a larger size disc.

    Upscaling

Another problem HD may face is that the new DVD players have the upscaling technology ie. DVD is played at 480p but upscalers upgrade the image to 720p or 1080i. This produces a picture which is of high quality to the untrained eye, in fact even the trained eye has difficulty distinguishing between the two. The difference is seen on a 50 inch HD projector and looking right up close. So the question is will 1080p be much different to 1080i? Will people fork out the added expense when they know that a cheaper DVD upscaler will create more or less the same effect?

    Media Backup

Software and Hardware companies have invested a lot of money in subsidising HD media. Samsung, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, LG, Sony, TDK, JVC and Sharp support Blu-ray and Toshiba and Microsoft back HD-DVD. Hollywood movie studios Disney, Paramount, Warner, Sony, Eagle rock, Fox and MGM and Lions gate support Blu-ray also. None of these large companies would take such a gamble if they didn't know that this is what the consumer wants.

    PlayStation 3

Sony love to bring out their own media whether its Sony Duo Sticks or Sony Mini Discs. Their hunger to dominate the consumer market has always been there and this is nothing different. The Playstation 3 will play Blu-Ray discs, still having the ability to play older media like DVDs and CDs. The success of the predecessor's PS1 and PS2 will give much anticipation to the release of this new console and is what Sony are hoping will convert people to use Blu-Ray. A Sony spokesman has predicted that Blu-Ray will dominate the HD market within 12 months.

The encouraging feature with HD-DVD is the name, everyone's ears will ring with the name and automatically assume that this is a high definition movie. Asking someone in the street what 'Blu-ray' is will bring looks of confusion, along with the fact that both will produce similar quality pictures.

    Region Coding

Region coding with Blu-Ray may put people off; the fact that you may not be able to watch a new release from the states or Japan on your European locked regional player will raise eyebrows.

REGION 1 South America, North America, East Asia (except China)
    REGION 2 Europe and Africa
REGION 3 China, Russia other Countries

Multiregional configurations on DVD players has encouraged sales worldwide especially with worldwide films from Bollywood, Japan (manga) and South America.

So far the HD-DVD camp has not announced region coding just yet, and if they don't then this will be very advantageous for consumers.

    Future Proof

Realistically you only need about 15-20 GB for a feature length film in High definition but who would have known that DVD's could not be able to hold enough for high definition. Theoretically they can with MPEG-4 Compression. In any case media like Blu-ray will hopefully be future proof in years to come.

    Conclusion

The timescale and price are the two main issues here, how quick we will universally change to HD and whether this is affordable. From a consumer point of view the necessity for HD doesn't seem imperative, after all VHS was around for 20 odd years twice that of DVD (so far). You could argue that technology is changing exponentially and that changes occur quicker.

As for the battle between the two media there may be compromise ahead. A UK firm has announced a solution to the media war. London-based New Medium Enterprises (NME) has developed a low-cost, multilayer DVD disc that can store Blu-ray content on one layer and HD DVD content on another. This would leave the consumer with the choice of buying either type of player to play the one disc.

The key setback I feel with the looming HD change is the cheaper alternative to a Blu-Ray player or HD-DVD player, the DVD upscaler. Do people want to get rid of those hundreds of DVDs they bought to replace them with an expensive alternative, especially when they might not even notice the difference in picture quality?

However I do feel that HD is encouraged with consoles such as the Playstation 3. Blu-ray is its main format and may revolutionise the games industry.

    Free Hentai Games

    Author: Tima.ashar
Hentai games are a form of artistic pornography in Japan that give free play to fantasy and imagination. It involves themes and aspects that are difficult to portray in other forms of representation.
The word "hentai" means "pervert" in Japanese. The use of cartoon characters to portray sexual fantasies often blurs the boundaries between adult and regular mainstream content. Nudity does occur in Japanese culture, as in Sailor moon. Children's work also depict such contents.
The basic function of hentai is to serve as an outlet for suppressed sexual desires by using cartoon figures as objects of desire. These fantasies can often border on the extreme.
Hentai works have been produced in the west, such as Hentai Manga and Hentai Anime. The internet today serves to spread its reach across the world.
The standard portrayal of women in Hentai is that of a regular female with some or no physical desires, often shy, till brought into an intimate situation by the onlooker. A common theme is of a male enticing a female for physical contact.
Hentai in Japan portrays a subculture, a culture built on releasing suppressed desires of the male population. It resembles the typical western pornography in only the basic outlines, as there is no real and graphic representation of the actual sexual act. It is a typical cultural expression of the orient mind.

A Career in Graphic Design - Working your way to the top of the creative industries

    Author: Horatio Farquaar

    Creative Director
Lets start at the top and work down. Art directors, or Creative Directors are responsible for a creative team that may design work for magazines, television, advertising graphics, websites, or on packaging. A creative team can consist of layout artists, graphic designers, photographers, copywriters, and menial staff to do the work. An Art directors job is to make sure that each of these workers do not slack off down the pub and complete their work to a deadline and to the client's needs. Art directors also make major decisicions along the lines of should the background be slate grey or cobalt blue, issuing dictates and changing their mind several days after a deadline has passed - leaving co-workers resolutely glum about their position in the grand scheme of things. Art directors will inevitably have come from some kind of marketing or sales background and need no prior graphic design knowledge or skill.

    Senior Designer
A Senior Designer is mainly concerned with the visual aspects of a company and will probably have been promoted on the basis that she is fun and a 'great team player' (despite this being far from the case). A Senior Designer will usually insist on having a larger widescreen monitor than the rest of the team which will be decorated variously with fluffy pink bits marketing people send through on a daily basis. A Senior Designer will be involved in the elements of a company's look such as business cards, stationery, packaging design, media advertising graphics, promotional design, and sticking up pictures of topless 'hunks'.

    Graphic Designer
The job of a Graphic Designer is to provide a new and exciting way to express the key information of a company or product through a dynamic image or use of typography. Graphic Designers take the scant information given to them by the client and using the internet to scab some free clip art, fashion their own ripped off logo designs in order to fleece the client for all they are worth.

    Layout Artists and Artworkers
The engine room of the design world. These scumbags have been buried away with their dusty macs for decades, remorselessly churning out pages and layouts. Inevitably some clueless muppet will send over a 100 page brochure layed out in microsoft word and it will be the Artworkers thankless task to make it publishable. They will need to recognise a font at 50 yards, be able to colour correct the dreariest of images and take a good bollocking every now and again to keep them on their toes. The Artworker must have the ability to design magazines, design brochures, design flyers, design books and design posters. He harbours murder fantasies.

    Illustrators
Illustrators generally speaking will have long greying hair and be influenced by prog rock. Working from home among the dungeon and dragonns figurines and manga comics they will attempt to put their own unique spin on whatever brief they are given. What you will be presented with is a semi clad girl with oversized boobs. You will have waited several weeks for this. You will never learn from previous mistakes.

    Web Designers
Web designers create the pages, layout, and graphics for web pages, they will be technically minded to the point of absurdity. They will insist on using c++ coding language to impress other geeks and will beaver away doing whatever it is geeks do for hours on end. Web designers also design and develop the navigation tools of a site which will for design websites involve tiny text that makes your eyes bleed. Web designers are far too clever for their own good and should never be encouraged.

    Hidden Messages Inside Anime

    Author: Henry Hsieh
Anime is one of the best things that could possibly happen to television. Since its debut outside Japan, anime has reeled in millions and millions of fans. However, there are those that remain skeptical of anime, thinking of it only as a glammed up version of the typical cartoons that we see on TV. They take one look at the too perfect faces, the out of his world costumes, and the quintessential talking animals and they immediately dismiss anime as childish. Well, we as watchers of anime know that there’s much more to anime beneath its cartoonish facade.

There are several hidden messages in anime, messages that speak directly to the soul, messages about life’s lessons and truths. They might be hard to see at face value but if you look past all the humor and all the drama, you’ll see that what the characters are going through, be it a robot invasion or one-on-one battle with a dragon, are essentially the same things that we’re going through… just translated into fantasy. And every obstacle they encounter, every moral dilemma they face, we can relate to in some way or another.

Take Naruto for example. He is a young orphan boy who has been ostracized by his village for having a demon fox sealed inside of him. Now, I doubt that any of you who are reading this have demon foxes sealed inside of you. But I can bet that some of you have felt ostracized, unwanted, underestimated, and utterly alone at some point in your lives. And even when all you want is a bit of acknowledgment, nobody seems to want to give it to you. And here’s where Naruto’s hidden message comes in even in Naruto Shippuden… it’s a challenge to all of us, to do what Naruto is currently doing: never giving up. It’s a challenge for us to take on his nindo and to never back out on our own words.

Almost all of the characters have hidden messages within their own stories and backgrounds. Take Zabuza, he is portrayed as a heartless killer, a villain, someone whom we are programmed to hate. And yet, at the final moments of his life, it is revealed that despite all his brusqueness, he is still human, like all of us. And he knows how to value and be grateful to those he loves. The message in this is clear, those who have done several misdeeds are still human, and we owe it to them and to ourselves to coax the humanity out of them.

And it’s not just the characters that are worth looking into either. The themes and plots of several anime deserve a lot of praise for their insight and ingeniousness. Look at the anime Deathnote, if you take it at face value, it’s nothing more than just a very well-written and well-portrayed thriller, complete with some of the best plot twists ever concocted in anime history. But if you look at its theme, you’ll see that it’s about the classic debate on justice… is it just to kill evil men for the sake of protecting those who are good? Or should we allow evil men to live on the premise that they’re human like all of us? It’s even reminiscent of the age-old debate about the death penalty. Do we really have the right to kill another human being?

Indeed, the hidden messages in anime are very thought provoking and it fosters self analysis at many levels. They might just change the way we view our lives if we take a more serious approach to them and utilize its life provoking lesson to make our society a better place. Yes, all in all it’s just anime but the power that it brings onto the table should never be underestimated.
